Migrating from one RAID controller to another?
Good afternoon.
There is a server (performs PDC functions) with a SCSI RAID controller. There is a desire to switch to SATA, because the existing screws are already starting to act up. As far as I know, they have also ceased to be produced, so you need to switch now, before the full ass has come, so that later you don’t do the same actions in emergency mode.
Actually, for this purpose, an ARECA ARC-1110 controller and two 500 GB screws were purchased.
And now the question arose of how to transfer the system partition to a new controller in such a way that the system would normally rise and work from the new RAID.
I understand that it would be possible to clone a partition with something like an acronis from one controller to another. But here the question arises: will Windows boot normally from the new controller?
As I understand it, it would be necessary for her to slip firewood from the target RAID somewhere so that she would not be very nervous. Where?
What can be pitfalls?

Well, as a matter of fact, there is a very stupid option:
0) we make a full backup of the system
1) we turn off the power cord, so that if anything, this does not go beyond the limits of the system unit.
2) we stick your new ARECA and hard drives into the server, create an array on them, when the server boots we give drivers
3) for prevention we reboot
4) we clone data from livecd from one array to another.
5) disable SCSI, turn on the server, pray.
Most likely it will not work, there is a much more reliable option: first clone from SCSI to an IDE disk, boot, clone to SATA. This is a proven option, so IBM eSeries itself transferred the motherboard to SATA, despite the fact that the original machine was completely dead.
Well, you have already been told about UR, maybe it's worth a try, you see, and there will be no need for dancing with a tambourine.
Do you have 1 DC? If more, then it's easier and more correct to put Windows from scratch and raise it to DC. Or except DC there are also other roles (software) on this server?
