Midnight Commander, select multiple files

Good afternoon!
I ran into the following problem when working via ssh in Midnight Commander:
1) I start MC in the terminal (or in iTerm), selectively select directories/files via Shift+up/down. Everything works great.
2) a problematic situation - first in the terminal (or in iterm) I connect to a remote host, and only then I start MC there and I cannot select directories via Shift+up/down (or all Shift++, Shift+*). I can’t select one by one, there is no Insert key on the keyboard.

How is this bug/feature fixed?

os: 10.8.5

ctrl+T
for me it selects one by one without problems, even if Shift+up/down doesn't work

Try also Fn+Return.
