MacBook slows down, what to do?

Comrades, throw an idea what to do.
There is a five-year-old Macbook with os high siera.
I tried all the standard checks - everything seems to be normal, there is a lot of disk space.
I cleaned it with Onyx, checked the disk for errors, but I haven't reinstalled the system yet.
At each action, a rainbow wheel appears.
The infection is fading.
There is also a poppy mini which is 12 years old - there are no such brakes on it.
Compared to the old minicom, the MacBook is like an invalid.
And it also seems that the macbook is loading too slowly, slower than the mini
. Are there any programs that test the hardware and give an objective picture - where are the bottlenecks?

Replacing thermal paste and if not SSD, then change the disk. These are the main sores of old poppies
