Macbook pro 8gb or 16gb ram?
Good day to all.
I decided to buy myself a macbook pro retina and got stuck with the choice. Who has experience, tell me please - what amount of memory on a poppy is optimal at the moment for my tasks: development on ruby on rails (sublimetext) + front-end (photoshop)?
Now I use for these purposes a PC under win with 16GB of memory (swap, according to the recommendations of numerous resources, is disabled because ssd), sometimes when photoshop is running, I catch a lack of memory. In parallel, usually running: virtualbox with ubuntu (2GB allocated for it), chrome + ff, sublimetext, far, putty.
I would take the version with 16GB of memory without hesitation, but the toad is choking, because. 30k difference with the 8GB version (other characteristics are not so critical). Yes, and a virtual machine on a poppy will not be needed.

There was the same choice when a girl (she is an architect) was bought a laptop.
As a result, we bought with 8GB and do not regret it much. There are no brakes, taking into account the parallel use of Photoshop and ArchiCAD.
I can also add that I myself am the owner of air with 4GB. Virtualbox is always running (in the background, no gui, 2GB of RAM), a huge number of tabs in chrome are open, some documentation and PhpStorm. There are no brakes, although almost the entire RAM is used on the system monitor. I can still run a virtual machine with Windows XP in parallel, the brakes do not appear.
A friend (he has air, 4GB) has brakes when he works with 3 running vmware virtual machines, but in principle it is understandable.
Such questions are meaningless, because The definition of "out of memory" is different for everyone. Someone sees Photoshop freezes for a second, and someone takes it for granted.
8GB is not enough for me. Take not a retina if the toad is strangling.
30k difference with 8gb version
I have a "firmware" with 8GB - I work in PhpStorm + Parallels + more software + safari with 5-8 tabs
, as a result, 500MB is still free.
But it's better to take 16GB - so that for sure and for a long time!
ATTENTION! If you buy a 2012 model with an LG display, don't buy it, the matrix is buggy there ( 9to5mac.com/2013/03/20/macbook-pro-with-retina-dis... )
