Macbook pro 2012 or Macbook air 2017?

Hello!
For all the time I had only one macbook - this is a Macbook pro mid 2012 with 16GB of RAM and 256ssd.
I have been developing on swift for six months and everything suits me in the laptop, except for the fact that most likely it will soon become unprofitable, it will no longer be supported, and so on.
Now there is still an opportunity to sell it and instead take it from a friend Macbook Air 2017 8gb 256ssd.
Is there any reason? Experienced people who have worked with different models, please give advice.
Air is fresher, but less RAM, a weaker processor, but after all, processors have been modified since 2012.
Thank you all in advance.

If you have no choice but to stay on the Macbook pro 2012, then by all means, take it. If there is an opportunity to take something other than Macbook air, you can think about it.

On both i5s?

Even if we compare only i5, the new ones seem to make the old one and most likely the difference will not be noticeable, but immediately there is noticeably more battery life and outputs - two USB, card reader and thunderbolt. By the way, it seems that only since 2013 there are PCI interfaces on the disk, so you can put very decent SSDs
