Macbook Pro 13 retina vs non-retina?
Good evening Toster.ru users!
I have a terrible dilemma... MBP 13 MD101 (non-retina) vs MBP 13 ME865 (retina).
I can't decide at all.
You need a Macbook in order to often carry it with you and along the way program in Java and a couple of scripting languages. Actually, you need a workhorse with a battery for about 6 hours in programming / surfing mode with Wi-Fi.
Everything seems to be fine in the MD101, but the resolution is not enough (in my opinion), and the ME865 will cost about 20k rubles. more expensive, which greatly stifles the toad ...
Climbing inside the MD101 and adding SSD and RAM there over time does not scare me (yes, I know that I won’t get the speed of the new retina, but it will be much faster than the HDD, plus the HDD can be done at all Leave it inside along with the SSD).
Does Retina make sense for a back-end developer? Or can you take the MD101 and not worry about it at all?
I hope I have indicated everything that is needed, along the way I will answer questions and supplement this text if it is suddenly needed.
Thanks in advance to all who respond!
UPD: dintsec , as already noted papahoolio 4 ram will not be enough very soon, but somehow I didn’t notice adequate options with 8 GB for Air ...
evnuhmaybe I'm doing something wrong, but I have a desktop 96ppi (1280x1024/17"/4:3), I have to sit on laptops 100ppi (1366x768/15.6"/16:9) and I don't feel discomfort, here what's the matter =) And the MD101 gets ~113ppi (1280x800/13.3"/16:10) - that is, the best pixel density value from what I had (except for the phone, but it doesn't count) =) Hence the question hell0w0rd "which is constantly working with the disk" is the main problem of the SSD in our time. If
I constantly work with it like this, then quite soon and unexpectedly I will have to changing SSDs, and in new retinas - this is a dubious joy =)
With such reasoning I have been sitting lately ...

Brother, you just determine for yourself what is important to you.
If you often carry around with you, then you need to seriously think about Air, a little more battery life will be a bonus
. from work something else, especially Java.
If it is the retina that is important, then you yourself understand - take it. But at 13 "this is a dubious pleasure, yet the size of the screen for the eyes is not very comfortable. I had a regular 13" firmware, I worked mainly with an external monitor, since there was not enough space on the laptop screen.
And yes, the retina is awesome, but at 15", I really like it =)
MB Retina 15 the last one, according to my feelings, is lighter than my wife's Air, although of course this is not true, 1.3 kg Air 13 and 2 kg MBP Retina 15 according to those. parameters
...
The machine is a beast, 16GB and 512SSD gives not only beautiful fonts on Toaster.ru and Sublime, but also excellent performance without bottlenecks on io and memory.
Do not skimp, inspiration from the pleasure of work is worth much more!
The MBA 13'' is the perfect solution to carry around. As for me, the proshka is meaningless for your purposes. 10 hours of work is enough for you.
Right now, I installed a late 2011 firmware on i5 plus with a second ssd disk for 128GB and 16GB of RAM, in real work I did not notice any strong differences with the retina. But!
1) the screen of my non-retina is just disgusting (viewing angles especially)
2) Weight (retina is still lighter), carrying 2kg always with you in your bag is not very comfortable.
I highly recommend that you take a closer look at air 13 + 8gb RAM. I myself am now going to change to air 11, but I have slightly different tasks.
And if you choose from these two: take a retina if you don’t mind the money.
