Load / performance / stress testing with 1-2 PCs for a RESTful web service - approaches / utilities / tools?

We all know what RESTful is :)
Please tell me approaches/utilities/tools for testing and analyzing whether a RESTful service can withstand a large number of simultaneous requests; find out how it will behave when the load is close to peak; in general load / performance / stress testing and related information is welcome.
The catch is that you need to do this with 1-2 PCs.
Interested in useful tips and valuable hints :)
PS And these are not DDoS questions.
