These are all derivatives of probability theory. Specifically, the load A = D/(T*R), where D is the amount of data transferred in time T, R is the data transfer rate.

This is for telephony, especially relevant for inter-operator telephone junctions and connection of call centers. Roughly speaking, when connecting to the station, it says I need 30 connecting lines with a load of 0.7 arl, which means that not 30 lines, but 21 will be occupied on average per hour (but not in the CNN). tyts
