Linux Mint MATE vs XFCE or which shell to put on a weak netbook?

Good day, there is an old asus 1201n netbook with an atom on board and 2GB of memory, on which ubuntu 12.04 lts is installed. I got very excited to play with Linux mint and the question arose, which shell is better to choose for a weak netbook, mate or xfce, and what is their fundamental difference?

Mate is subjectively more convenient than xfce. Performance is about the same.

I vote for xfce. Lightweight, easy to customize.

LXDE.
Compared to the Gnome, KDE and other monsters are the fastest (and the most familiar for those who are used to the design of the old Venda).
Mint with LXDE seems not to be built for a long time, but there is ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu

So others. After a bit of poking around, at the same time testing all the proposed shells, I decided to install MATE with demons and other optimizing joy, because the performance is almost the same for everyone, and the interface is subjectively more attractive for MATE. And not in vain, it turned out to be a fairy tale, not a system =)
Thank you very much for the advice.
