Linux in DVRs?

Guys, after several months of studying various DVRs from dahua, rvi, Optimus and a couple more, I came to the conclusion that the guys don’t really bother and do everything in carbon copy. And now it became interesting, but what is the composition for capturing and processing? Maybe someone saw the article, maybe someone already knows?

In theory, on Linux-based devices, you can require the source code from the manufacturer, since Linux itself is open source licenses for all modifications must also be open source.
