My relatives finally decided to go legal and buy licensed Windows. As usual, they asked me. And I really couldn’t figure out which version of licenses for Windows 7/8 is the cheapest and where you can buy it. On the one hand, Windows 7 is no longer for sale (it seems), on the other hand, Windows 8 is offered to be bought as an upgrade from Windows 7.

It cannot be that the cheapest Windows license costs from 5,000 rubles.

PS: the computer is assembled by hand, maybe something like OEM is suitable? Again, what is it called and how much does it cost?

OEM Windows 8 + carefully read what is written on the envelope, then follow the link and carefully read the text of the license (the Russian translation is also there), which says that when installed on a self-assembled computer, you can not only transfer this license to another computer, but even sell her :) (i.e., in fact, this is not an OEM version).

Don't hesitate to buy OEM. They manage to sell it to ordinary private traders. Which is supposedly forbidden. By installing it, you will have a purely formal license, i. it seems to be there, but at the same moment you are violating the license agreement.
There is only one way out now. Buy 8. In advance, call Microsoft and check the keys. As far as I know, keys from 8 fit on 7.

You're right about the EULA restrictions for regular OEM users. They really are, I throw the link , the main features of the OEM license are described there and compared with the analogue of the boxed version.
But in any case, for home use, you can safely purchase an OEM license from PC assemblers in the region of 1000 rubles and it will be better than using pirated OSes.
