Layout in Linux?

Greetings.
Since the moderators deleted my question because of the danger of holivar, I will try to ask it in a different form briefly and clearly)).
If there are layout designers working under Linux, tell us what features and limitations this OS has in terms of layout. What if there is no full-fledged Photoshop under it? What distribution do you recommend?

I switched from Windows to Ubuntu 3 months ago. Everything is ok and everything is working properly. Starting from the command line and ending with the editor. And the fact that there is no full-fledged Photoshop is a myth. Look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjmQJckOATM And actually why does Photoshop need a layout designer, it's clear that to see the layout and cut it, that's it. True, all this can be done on gimp, but this is a matter of taste. Personally, I am for the product Adobe assets.adobe Everything else is configured and works on Linux many times easier and faster. node, npm, bower, gulp, grunt, git... everything a front-end developer needs. The same looftblog posted a video with setting up a development environment on Linux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfSm7SVq4LA
UPD: and yes, now Avocode rules

The problem with PS is solved by installing Windows in VirtalBox + a couple more virtual machines for your favorite IE. Otherwise, linux has only pluses. Although the OS is not so important for the html / js / css bundle.
PS Try seamless mode in VirtalBox

I saw the question in the mailing list among the interesting ones, and although belatedly, I will answer.
I don't type much. I do more backend, but I do layout and do it under Linux. I do not understand why PS is needed. Layouts must be in png. The layout elements that you need must be in png. Photo for registration in jpg.
The only serious problem is IE and layout check in it. But I just ignore him and say that if I do the layout, then it is only for web browsers.

If the question is only in photoshop for slicing, then there is a great FREE online version of Photoshop from Adobe . The possibilities are, of course, reduced compared to the usual version, but everything is there for cutting the layout.

And I will tell you so. Select Mac. This is all the power of the command line + an abundance of suitable software.

I installed the usual portable version of photoshop. since the portabilly drags all the libraries with it, respectively, and it works more stable than usual.
Launched under the usual vine without custom. it seems to work, of course the alt is blocked by the system, but here either the system itself will be reconfigured or don't use the alt;)

Image editor - GIMP, layout - Bluefish. Everything is put stupidly from the Ubuntu application center The only trouble is when I put the Russian-language menus, some specific keyboard shortcuts stopped working. The basic functionality ( ^a ^c ^v etc.) has not changed, but now my cordless mouse is lying around doing nothing.. the pad built into the laptop has completely replaced it :)

Definitely Ubuntu. Photoshop is really a problem. Well, only if you are a layout designer and not a designer, then there are no problems. If you wish, you can run the shop, but I typeset without it, since there are brackets.io from the developers of Photoshop. it opens PSD layouts without any problems and even helps with layout))

I'm of course late, but for GIMP there is a plugin registry.gimp.org/node/28268 (automated layout slicing) and psd2html registry.gimp.org/node/24767

For layouts, Inkscape is very good - very convenient. I collect Inskscape from source codes - it is done in 5 minutes. Linux has long outgrown Windows in terms of ease of use and various features. I don’t use windows at all, at work I transferred 80% of the fleet to ubuntu - and everything is fine.
