Laptop monitor won't turn on?

The laptop turns on, all the sounds are made, the lights are on, the coolers are spinning .. but the monitor remains black.
The laptop was very clogged, overheated. But everything worked. He lay for 2 weeks, the owner did not touch him, then he started it and after a while he turned off.
As I understand it, it overheated or burned out (I don’t know exactly what could happen), in general, some kind of chip failed.
It is interesting that I connected an additional monitor via vga, it showed a picture, but only distorted, flickering, with stripes here and there. Then I read on some forum that the failure of the graphic chip gives just problems with the complete inoperability of the monitor, and these stripes, distortions, artifacts.
So, my question is, can it be that this chip is out of order (that is, if it is replaced, everything will be clear) and for a laptop monitor it has no connections left at all, and the external monitor is still like that pulls? Or if it fails then the problem should be the same for all monitors?

Replace the video card, everything will work. If it can be replaced there of course.

Definitely bring it to the service, rather overheating and the dump of the chip, it is treated only by replacing it. Do not bring the equipment to the state of an industrial vacuum cleaner.

I advise you to first check what the problem is: in the monitor or video card. The best way to identify the problem is to connect the laptop to the TV. I can advise an article that describes how to properly connect a laptop to a TV.
