Laptop mirror?
Does it make sense to install a second hard drive in a laptop and set up a mirror volume using Windows tools? Will such a software RAID1 provide redundancy comparable to solutions based on SW RAID chipsets or RAID controllers?

Yes, it will. Only energy will eat like two screws. On laptops, I think it makes no sense.
