Laptop backup and quick recovery to work, how?

Background - the spouse works remotely, everything is set up and working on the laptop, by the nature of the work it is desirable without long downtime, there is no backup machine. On one of Fridays, an unpleasant story happens - the cooling system flies on the laptop, the laptop turns off periodically due to overheating, it is impossible to work. It was a good evening and the work was almost over and everything was restored to working condition over the weekend.
And naturally there was a desire to somehow protect yourself from such problems and minimize downtime. Please share experienced "remote workers" how you solve such issues. Or is it still desirable to have a backup machine? The laptop is running Windows 7.

An option is to put VirtualBox on a laptop, set up a virtual machine with Linux (the nature of the work allows, there is no specialized software there, you need a browser, office, etc.) and backup the virtual machine to yandex disk or mail ru cloud

Make a backup of the configured system.
Veaam
Acronis
Clonezilla
RcloneDrive
If necessary, restore to a new disk\virtualka
Another option - rent a VPS with Windows, install everything there... work via RDP... then you can do it in any calculator

git to your own VPS and github + a second disk with a configured working OS.
In case of crash, replace the disk and do a git pull

simply possible. like in the old days.
if laptop and 1 disk - beat off a piece under the system. the rest is data.
Windows flew off, the system disk was formatted, installing a new fresh Windows, browser, office, setting up saving data to disk 2. Profit
, if you don’t want to fool around at all, then save the image of a clean system with all the programs to disk 2. you can even use the standard ones without any complications Windows means.
But in order for everything to be covered right in cabbage soup, these are isolated cases in a few years. Of course, you have every right to play it safe.
PS: and so that there are no such cases as you had, I recommend regular maintenance and condition monitoring. Well, check the disk there and see the temperature.
