Kernel panic, what to do?

During the update of the packages, the screen went blank and a single console cursor appeared. It was like this for a long time, turned it off and on again, got a kernel panic. Booting from another kernel did not help. How to restore system performance?

Welcome to the real Linux :)
Try to boot from somewhere other than your local drive and look at the logs. If necessary, try to debug in the ways described in the wiki.

Try fscking the filesystem, and then replacing those binaries that have a size of 0 with those from the distribution.
