Joomla. Why subcategories in categories are not displayed?

On the main page, my categories are displayed in squares, in some categories there are subcategories. If you open a category that has subcategories, then the subcategories are not displayed. How can this be fixed?

If I understood correctly, then you need to make the landing page to which you go to the type "List of all categories" and select the one from which the transition is going from as the root category.

This is more of a question for the menu module. Your module most likely does not allow displaying subcategories, or it is disabled in the settings.
