Is using VPS and VirtualBox similar?
Having learned about VPS, I got the impression that the technology allows you to conveniently and cheaply deploy servers for development. However, looking at the offers of companies providing VPS services, there is a misunderstanding of the lack of functions that are in demand for me.
When developing on my laptop, I often use virtual machines on which databases, application servers, etc. are deployed ... And only the IDE remains on the laptop itself. And having learned about VPS, I assumed that the technology would allow deploying virtual machines on leased capacities cheaper and easier than purchasing and maintaining your own physical server in your home.
Interested in the reality of the existence of the following features:
* Payment for capacities (CPU, RAM) separately from the hard drive. By renting 10Gb RAM and 2 cores, use them with one Wirth. machine while busy with one project. And when switching to another project, turn it off, saving it on a separately paid hard drive, and use idle power for another virtual machine.
* The concept wanted to work - turned on the car - you pay money for hours of work, finished working - turned it off - money is debited only for the hard drive .
* Launching a VirtualBox or VMware virtual machine . For example, to run preconfigured machines from vendors (Oracle, OnlyOffice...) with software already installed, or migrated virtual machines that I ran on my laptop.

Have you read about Amazon AWS? If not, then https://aws.amazon.com/ru/pricing/?nc2=h_ql_ny_liv...
Amazon has everything, but on your computer it’s ten times cheaper to do it
VPS can run on completely different virtualization systems. Therefore, it is more correct to compare specific examples.
Vbox is aimed mostly not at remote work, but on the local computer.
although nothing prevents you from connecting remotely.
but on a VPS, you can choose the configuration that your computer can handle. for example 64 GB of RAM and 16 CPU. plus order at once Several network addresses and a data center closer to end users.
