Is there a modern e-book with an open SDK?

I want to make an information panel built into the wall at home. Display time, temperature, manage smart home systems.
I would like to use electronic ink, because neither color nor update speed is critical.
Faced the problem of closed development tools.
For kindle , you need to send a request to amazon , to receive a justification for the usefulness of the development for humanity. Not my case.
For pocketbook , he finds SDKs of very old models, which you can’t even find on sale.
As a backup option, I think to look for e-books with support for installing apk , or use the experimental amazon kindle browserand write a web application.
But maybe someone else can suggest something better.
The application is planned to be simple - touch handling, work with the canvas and sending / receiving http requests are required.

It is better not to fence bicycles and buy an e-book on android. I use this one myself: Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch. You can put a regular android 2.1 on it and calmly write applications like a regular smart. You can try to find a more recent version.
