Is the open and save file dialog slow in MS Office 2010?
Faced the problem of slow operation of the open/save files dialog. The dialog box "thinks" for 10-40 seconds.
The dialog gives delays when listing a directory that contains more than 10000 text files (the extensions are mainly rtf and txt). The number of files is approximate, but when a certain threshold is passed, the opening speed increases significantly. I understand that it is desirable not to create such directories, but in this case the question is not only in performance, but also in the combination of products. Symptoms appear only in a bunch of Windows XP + Office 2010. If you use XP in conjunction with Office 2003 or Win7 with Office 2010, then there is no problem. The issue is seen in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint products. Other products have not been tested.
What can you advise to diagnose or solve the problem?

Process Monitor
Collected data can be filtered by operation duration, operation type, rows contained, and more.
Is the processor loaded or idle during the mentioned 10-40 seconds? If it is idle, then offhand I can advise you to filter all CreateFile operations and look at their duration.
Are you sure it's in this directory?
Are there any network drives connected to the computer?
If you switch the display mode to “list” or “table” in this dialog, will the behavior change? maybe the system is just checking to see if thumbnails can be displayed for output.
