Is socket AM3+ up to date?
I would like to build a computer based on socket AM3+, but I'm afraid that in the near future AMD will release a new socket and score on AM3+, but I would like to be sure that at least 1 more generation of processors will be released on this socket for a possible upgrade in 1-2 years. I heard somewhere that AMD plans to support FM2 for a long time, but today only Athlone is on this socket. Actually, what do you think about this: take a chance and take an AM3 + socket, or install an Athlone x4 760K-based system and install a fresher processor in a year or two, if necessary?

According to AMD the only AM3+ CPUs to be available in '14 are the Piledriver based models so no new AM3+ cored CPUs. No Steamroller or better core AM3+ CPUs ever. It's over... Socket AM3+ officially ends life in Q1
of
'15 accorrding to AMD
.
There are 942 processor pins in the AM3 + socket, so it cannot be relevant, in comparison, for example, lga 2011.
No one will say anything specific about the socket. What about AMD, so also about Intel. Everything can change at any moment. But I would recommend not to take AMD. Today it is a terrible brake. Here is a comparative table
of AMD tops that are far behind Intel, and I suspect that this does not bother them at all .. It's a shame.
On FM2, processors come with a video and, as a rule, a reduced clock frequency. This is a budget option, you can say ... but it is the latest version.
As for the AM3 + socket, it is relevant for the reason that the most powerful processors from AMD, for example, the FX8350 with a frequency of 4.1-4.3 GHz, 8 cores go to it. I won’t write for caches and bandwidth, see for yourself. And it's not the most powerful yet. There is a percentage of the FX95XX series there with a frequency of 5 GHz, but it is expensive and a limited number on the market.
