Is Ruby promising as a tool for making money?

Is it worth it now to start learning Ruby and is it promising as a tool for making money? If so, how long can it take to learn it sufficiently knowing: HTML , CSS, basic Javascript?
Or do not invent anything and opt for PHP?

If you are interested in perspectives, then most likely you need to delve into the study of javascript. There are not enough front-end workers already now, and what will happen next is scary to imagine (especially considering how html5 is spreading to all sorts of devices - TVs, mobile phones, etc.)
I personally wrote in PHP only at the university, more Java. But in a year, I practically completely switched only to Ruby - and I don’t feel a lack of orders (I work, though, on English exchanges).

Ruby's main problem is that it's hard for a junior to find a job. Basically, because you need to write tests right away. Middle is already much easier.
Moreover, the ruby requires knowledge of not only Rails and Ruby, but also SASS (with some kind of framework), CoffeeScript, RSpec (and Factory Girl / Fabrication, VCR, Capybara, etc.), PostgreSQL (MySQL are being used less and less). Plus, one Rails may not be enough, sometimes part of the API needs to be taken out separately, using something like Grape or Sinatra. We should not forget about CI, which is now practiced almost everywhere.
Well, that is, it is much easier for a PHP programmer, he will find a job faster, the entry threshold is much lower.

I also like Ruby with rails more, but when you look at how many projects and vacancies are in PHP, then you compare it with Ruby, doubts arise

Choosing according to the principle "is it promising as a tool for making money" is not correct. Choose the one you like best.

As one rubist told me, over time you become an expert in RoR and nothing else. And you start saying that half a second to generate a page is normal. Of course, you can earn money in this way, but it will be boring.

Is RoR boring? And everyone around just says how amazing this thing is.
