Is node.js promising?

Heard a lot about node.js.
As far as I know, on node you can raise a full-fledged long-polling web application, something like Twiiter.
But until now, only one question torments me, is it worth learning node.js or is it better to learn another web language?
I am programming in php using CodeIgniter Framework.
I will be very grateful for your help.

You need to know JS at least for the frontend, learning the node will help you learn it from the other side. Is the node promising? Don't know. Someone thinks that it is no longer there, they have played enough. I think it's promising. The easiest and most convenient way to deploy a RESTful api and/or WS backend. Using one language, the same libraries, templates both on the client and on the server - it's easier to write the entire stack for one developer. And v8 thing, to put it mildly, is not slow.

Definitely NodeJS, especially for those who know JavaScript very well and are sympathetic to all sorts of "brain twisters" in it.

In relation to CodeIgniter, it is definitely promising :-)
