Not safe.
Vulnerabilities are found periodically, fixed, but some have not yet been found, and they continue to exist and wait in the wings.
It is practically impossible to eliminate vulnerabilities completely these days.
The right decision would be to use quality software. But where to find it? So far this is a problem. I think the whole 21st century will consist of reworking old software and creating new software at a new level, so that programmers will not be left without work.
Lite solution - always download the latest phone updates, strong password, etc.
