Is it worth going for information security at ITMO?

This year I am entering a university, I pass computer science and I seem to have a chance for high scores. I want not to be mistaken with the choice of specialty and university. I think between Baumanka and ITMO. And in the latter, I am very attracted to such a direction as information security. Is this specialty good, is it in demand and what knowledge will I get after training?

Sorry, but with such a set of questions, I always start to look askance at a person who aspires to specialties related to information systems. Since it is easy to google without asking stupid questions on the forums.

For an idiot it will be like this, for a person with brains it will be excellent.

What knowledge will I gain after the course?

Are you sure you'll get them? The University does not give you any guarantees in obtaining knowledge, especially any sacred ones. Get a standard database of information security, which is in books and the Internet. A good supplement will be the ability for you to study, take subjects in a stressful situation, well, a crust. Whether you get a job - it all depends on you, and the crust will finish those 10% missing.

Choose by the number of vacancies in the city. For it is obvious that if there are 100 such vacancies in MSK, and 4-5 in St. Petersburg, then it is better to go to Moscow. For where there are vacancies, there are internships, there are guys from the group with connections who will be taken by pull (and with good relations, you can try to go by train), and teachers with acquaintances, and so on.
For frankly, if it's just "programming", then it's cheaper and easier to unlearn at some regional university, because it will be cheaper and calmer. But such specialties are best taught at the place of demand.

And then suddenly a rare profession and it will be hard to get a job somewhere

It’s hard to get a job somewhere, both if there are a lot of vacancies and if there are few.
If there is a lot - there the competition is such that if you are just going to study - you are already late. Your competitors set up a server at home at school and studied something.
Therefore, rethink the concept of a specialist, and understand that you go to college not for a profession, but for higher education. In the CIS, these are completely different things.

Is a gynecologist a good specialty? On the one hand, it seems yes - you can look at naked women the most reluctantly. On the other hand, to constantly encounter ... let's say, the peculiarities of the functioning of the human body :)
IS is about the same thing. It has something that is attractive, but also very (well, just very ) a lot of work, boring, dull, unpleasant ...

What's with the weird question? Go to the website of the educational institution and see the curriculum.
The first skill of an information security specialist is the ability to independently search for information
