Usually you receive an email notification. I just call my mobile, take a picture for a couple of seconds and that's it. Thus, 5 euros has probably been hanging for 2 years "just in case".

Yes "If you do not use Skype Credit (including Skype Credit allocated to you by your Skype Manager administrator) within 180 days, Skype will deactivate the funds." But at any time they can be activated again with a couple of mouse clicks.
