Is it possible to write a thesis in Markdown?

I want to write a thesis on github in markdown, and then convert it to a pdf file with a title page, content and design in accordance with GOST. Is it possible?
Are there any ready made tools for this?
PS I don't want to deal with LaTeX.

How do you go about doing things with markdown such as positioning images on a page; footnotes; writing formulas; correct numbering of formulas, images, code inserts; counting these formulas, images, code inserts; title page layout; work with bibliography; conformity of design to GOSTs and other standards, in the end?
In fact, by choosing markdown, you are loading yourself with the extra work of solving all of the above problems, while most of them have long been solved by those who use LaTeX.
In the end, if your diploma assumes very simple formatting, then you can try to write the main text in markdown, and then convert it to LaTeX, but there will still be a rake.
So, it's better to spend 2-3 evenings getting to know a useful tool :)

I also "sharpened my pencils" for a long time before just sitting down and writing. :) Used, by the way, LyX.
Well, for your task, try pandoc: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandoc

difficult but possible, you will need to get confused with the generation of pdf and styles (to fit GOST). The rest of the markdown features should be enough.
