Is it possible to use variables DIRECTLY from a file in soapui?

I know how to load properties for a project or test cases, etc. from a file, but nevertheless, in test cases, you should always give a link to test cases / project, etc. (like ${#project#my_var}).
But maybe there is a way to specify variable references directly in the file?
