Is it possible to use lower frequency RAM?

At the moment there is a pentium g4560 processor + 16gb of ddr4 2133mhz memory. Is it possible to take a newer processor and motherboard and leave the old RAM if, for example, the characteristics of the new motherboard have a frequency of 2666 MHz? Will the memory simply run at its frequency or burn out?

The memory will just run at its own frequency.

Won't burn. Either it will work at its own frequency (most often, if the generation gap is small), or a complete failure without any overheating (if you put something completely old / new).

If something changes in the interface of the device inserted into the slot so that the old one can burn out, the slot itself changes.
And the speed of memory is generally a dynamic characteristic. Here in the store they tried to prove to me that in pair with my Crushial 2400 it is necessary to take exactly the 2400 memory (which they only had a more expensive model).
I am writing from a machine where the Crucial 2400 and AMD 2666 are in parallel.

If the motherboard allows you to take 2666, then please: increase your health. The main thing is that the memory would be driven to this frequency on this mother. You need to look at the overclocking specifications on the mother, and preferably for memory.
Emphasis on memory and mother always.
And to take the frequency less - no problem. It's always possible.
It is unlikely to burn memory from increasing the frequency. With an unsuccessful frequency, it simply will not start, but from an increase in voltage, there is already a possibility.
