Is it possible to turn off the HDD in OptiBay when it is not needed?

I remembered that I have a laptop screw for 1TB, put it in, everything works.

But it's annoying that I open the explorer code on Windows or Linux - it immediately starts to buzz. The laptop itself is cold, while in the browser I'm climbing or I'm spinning a virtual machine, I heard only the howl of the cooling fan. And now, with the advent of the screw in the laptop, a whole range of new sounds has appeared, which in the silence of the night often distract and bring out. Either the disk spins pancakes, then it gets up, waits a couple of seconds and spins again.

I use the screw itself as a file dump, there are movies-music-photos-software. There is no need to contact him constantly.

I suppose that on Linux it could be simply unmounted and, if necessary, mounted back. But for me the question remains whether it can continue to spin pancakes after the unmount operation, make noise in every possible way, etc.

On Windows, frankly, I do not know how. Not even a guess.

How to do everything right?

Just in case:
Toshiba Tecra R940
Core i5 3220m
Intel HD 4000
10 GB RAM
SSD GoodRAM IRDM 128 GB MLC
HDD Samsung 7200 1000GB
Windows 10 Pro (1511) Unsupported
OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
