Is it possible to restore a windows backup file (vhd) to restore in hyper-v?

I make a backup copy using the standard windows server archiving utility. Next, I try to connect the resulting vhd files as disks in hyper-v. The system refuses to boot. What am I doing wrong?

vhd file stores an image of the system disk, but it is not bootable, so it will not boot from it.
You need to either manually make it bootable, or use the standard recovery mechanism.
This is the backup. It's just meant to be restored. You start the recovery mechanism, slip the backup folder and you're done.
Although here, again, it should be understood that it will run correctly and without problems only on the same hardware. If your hardware has changed a lot, it’s far from a fact that it will be able to start. So it all depends on the configuration of the hardware from which the backup was made.
