Is it possible to replace the DVD drive in a laptop with a USB?
I have an Asus N551JM laptop. It has a DVD-ROM which is not being used. At the same time, USB is terribly lacking. Are there any adapters that allow you to install additional USB ports instead of a DVD-ROM? The ultimate dream could be an HDD caddy with USB ports :)

Up to 127 USB devices can be connected to the host controller via usb hubs, and hubs cost a penny for China, and more expensive if necessary with active power and a large number of ports. Please note that the port outputs 0.5A as a standard, so if you are going to connect more than a couple of flash drives, then a hub with an external power supply is required.
If you really want to embed the ports inside the laptop, then you can get a scarf from the hub and stuff it instead of a cd drive, covering it with a socket, and solder the input to the bluetooth / modem / camera interface (look at the service manual, there half of the periphery hangs on the internal usb ports)
