Is it possible to remake an old keyboard for a mobile phone?

I would like to know if I can remake the keyboard for a mobile phone? I looked for guides on how to do this and did not find ...
What is available:
1) A microcontroller with an old connector
2) Keys
3) A rug or a circuit (I used to call it a rug))
There are three questions:
Can I cut the rug (Circuit) into two parts?
Can I then use the microcontroller part?
Can I convert the old connector to microUSB or USB?

The "rug" cannot be cut, it is pierced by conductors. If they are broken, the keyboard will not work.
"Old connector" is a small round one? It's called PS/2 . No, you can't convert it to USB. Now, if the connector was USB, it could be changed to microUSB. And so - these are two incompatible standards, they cannot be connected directly.
