Is it possible to RDP client without X?

I thought about using the Raspberry Pi B as a thin RDP client (and for some reason there is very little information about this).
Actually, the question is, is it possible to use any client without running massive "x"? After all, there are video players for the same RPi that display the picture directly (without leaving the console). Or am I doing something stupid?
