Is it possible to put 16Gb RAM on Apple MacBook Pro A1286 (MC985, unibody mid2009, MacBookPro5,3)?

They asked to fix and at the same time upgrade the Apple product. There are no problems with repairing and ordering batteries, fans and hybrid HDDs, but there is a question with memory.
No, they banned me from Google. But everything is very controversial in the recommendations on the Internet. There is no clear answer NO or YES. The vast majority recommend a maximum of 8Gb. But all this advice is very old. The thing is that when this product was released, Apple itself had only 2Gb and 4Gb configurations available on board. Now it's ridiculous to have so many brains. After some time, individual memory manufacturers learned how to make compatible modules in 8Gb (at first at sky-high prices, and then lower and lower). Whooping about these 8Gb, bypassing the restrictions of Apple, and all the Internet is full. By the way, at that time it was the maximum for the MacOS operating system. But since then, everything has changed, and there are 16Gb sets with the same timing, frequency and weight states. On a 2011 MacBoob Pro with the same processor, according to reviews, these 16Gb are installed and users are happy (there is even a Toster). But there are no such reviews about the 2009 models. It seems that everyone is happy with 8Gb, and no one tried to put modern SO-DIMMs on 16Gb. There are no positive or negative reviews. But you really want to buy 16Gb!
PS The user is an architect. He'll need the extra memory.

And I found it on macrumors.com, they tried to put 2x8GB in various laptops in 2009 and 2010, and nothing happened, they mention that Nvidia MCP79, MCP89 do not support more than 8GB. forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1511196
At the same time, I found out for myself the maximum memory on my laptop, also by the way unibody mid2009. Now it costs 4.

I understood correctly - there is a set of 2x8, while one bar 8 is guaranteed to rise and work?
So in the worst case, the architect will get one plank for the price of two, and the second will remain with you ...
