Is it possible to publish code under NDA if it has been changed?

Hello. The following question arose - a certain code was written as part of a project in a company with which an NDA was signed. After that, in my free time, I decided to rewrite it for myself, optimizing it, changing the style to OOP, for example, improving variable naming, etc. The question is - is this code still the property of the company or is it not now?
And how is the issue resolved - for example, I need to write a body mass index calculator for 2 different companies. The formula is the same. I won’t be perverted and write 2 most dissimilar calculators, just not to break it) This is purely a sporting interest, I didn’t have such a situation)

I proceed from the statement that by NDA you mean an agreement on the transfer of copyright and other rights.
Formally - you had no right to do anything based on someone else's code.
In fact, it's very hard to prove.
And the classic NDA in the Russian Federation does not actually work :-(

The question is rather what will you do with this code? If you compete with a company in their own market, you, as a former employee, will have questions, regardless of whether you used the code or not. A common practice is when an employee signs a piece of paper stating that he will not work in companies in the same markets for X years after his dismissal. This is important only for the tops and works only in the West, in our country it is rather a sedative for the owners of small companies, because everyone is only thinking how to steal their idea.
If you are not a direct competitor of the former company - do what you want (by changing the code).
