Is it possible to painlessly upgrade memcached in Debian 6 from version 1.4.5 to 1.4.15?
Good day.
Please tell me if it is possible to painlessly upgrade memcached in Debian 6 from version 1.4.5 to 1.4.15. The Debian Squeeze repositories do not have this update, but version 1.4.12 can be found in the Debian Wheezy repositories. Interested in saving configs (although making a backup is not a problem) and saving autoload and managing ala /etc/init.d/memcached restart.
The option "Collect from source" is considered as the most extreme.

All the same, it's better to build from source, Debian does not support razor-edge updates - at best, 1.4.15 will first get into Unstable, hang there until a new stable version is released, and then get into Testing. I advise you to understand the life cycle of packages in the distributions used. The most hardcore in this regard so far remains Arch.
PS CheckInstall will help you.
I would try to take 1.4.14 from Ubuntu Quantal and rebuild under Squeeze.
The rebuild procedure is elementary: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpdatingADeb
