Is it possible to make MS SQL work normally with a ping of 50-100 ms?

There is a program that uses the sql-th database on a server.
When you run the program from the local network, the program works fine.
When you start from somewhere else through the VPN, it starts to work 10 - 15 times slower.
The speed of the VPN is normal .. for VOIP or which files to transfer is quite enough.
I noticed the difference only in ping .. from LAN 1-3 ms, and from the Internet 50-100 ms.
There is no noticeable difference in ping due to VPN.
I tried to connect to the database via the Internet without vpn .. but something failed. Maybe the ports were not forwarded correctly, or maybe the program starts to be harmful when working via the Internet.
UPD:
The program is called Business Studio

The base is not to blame at all. In any case, it works the same way, and does not depend on ping in any way.
Your application sends a request to the database, and waits for a response, when it receives a response, sends the next request.
Let's say the application sends 100 requests per second -
With a ping of 1-3ms, you will have to wait for a response of 0.1-0.3 seconds.
With a ping of 50-100ms, you will have to wait 5-10 seconds for a response.
Keep the application close to the database so that the ping is low, or rewrite the application logic.

It's clearly not about ping. Write to product support.
