Is it possible to install Dalvik VM on Linux to run Android apps?

You can install, but how?
Dalvik VM was ported to Meego and Maemo, i.e. as I understand it, you need to rebuild the port for x86.
Canonical has also been doing (doing?) Android Execution Environment, has been doing it since 2009 and nowhere to see the results. Although you can try to collect from sources (there is a mention on the launchpad).
