Is it possible to get orders by promoting an account on SO and other sites?
I wonder if, for example, a person on StackOverflow has a reputation of darkness, a well-filled profile, github, some kind of his twitter where he posts something, does this give an influx of orders?
It's just that if, for example, you have a good design portfolio on behance / dribble, then it seems that only from there you can already receive orders (or am I mistaken?)
I wonder how things are in the case of SO. That is, one way is to go to the exchanges and so on, and promote it there, but they probably also hunt on SO (say, go to the tag of some framework, find the top responders there, and write them a proposal for cooperation).
Does anyone have this experience?)

If you imagine that you will invest time in SO, Toster, Quora, etc profiles only in order to get an exhaust in the form of orders and turn a blind eye to the potential benefits of your answers, then the time spent on building up and keeping the profile afloat can be equated to mediocre spent, as there are many other much more effective ways to attract customers. People register on such services not for the sake of orders. At the same time, participation in IT communities will be a good addition to your main work profiles.
You’d better finally fill out your profile in My Circle, start LinkedIn and put your profiles on freelance exchanges in order. Because in the current form, hardly anyone wants to deal with you.
I’m not lying if I say that a somewhat swollen profile on a popular thematic resource, no, no, yes, and brings some customers, their number and regularity of such “drives” is another matter. Speaking about my experience - yes, they come, but rarely.
Let those who have a lot of them tell, it will be very interesting to hear))
Yes, it works. And they send orders and try to hunt.
Yes, it happens, but the exhaust is not enough to talk about it as an effective method. And sometimes there are calls from the toaster, and from LinkedIn. But if the task is lead generation, then this is not the first ten resources from which one should hope to get a significant response. As for the "tail" - yes, it's worth it.
