Is it possible to get from a salesperson to project managers?

I work in sales of IT solutions, project manager. Our solutions are hardware, servers, network devices, disk arrays, of course computers and peripherals. My job is to find clients and maintain a good relationship with them, the technical side, to lay down on other people. At work, I often deal with people management.
At one time, foolishly, I made a mistake for myself. On the way to the university, I decided that I didn’t want to be a programmer (although I was going to enter the faculty of programming).
The essence of the question is whether it is possible to get from salespeople (not bad salespeople. Deals are quite serious and extensive) to project managers in programming.

Usually, the value of an employee is considered in two aspects: soft skills and hard skills.
There are no questions with the first one - sales and management have a lot in common in this part.
The key question will be with the second. Processes, methodologies, risks, reporting - these are the specifics that must be mastered in order to become a PM in software development.
Thus, the answer to the question lies in how and where you will gain this experience.
It is ideal to participate in a relevant internal project (in the current organization). Ideally, at least take the course. Next, find a vacancy somewhere where you need a strong salesperson and a PM in development, it can be some kind of startup or a new direction in a large organization.

Yes you can, but why? A good salesperson earns more PMA, and more opportunities.

Fully compatible positions. Only I would not change one for another, PM additionally.

Pull up practical knowledge and understanding of the work of PM. If this is interesting, then try to take courses or maybe the company will pay you for training.
