Why a second computer? There are video cards with two outputs - you can connect two monitors. Works great.
Well, if you really need to use a second computer, then look towards Radmin and Teamviewer.

I use Synergy for two laptops, it's easy to set up. By the way, more than two computers (laptops) can be connected to it. I don’t know how many maximum, but I connected two additional ones to the main laptop.

I found a chic Client-Server program that expands the desktop as if it were just a second physically connected monitor, and it also works with mobile platforms. spacedesk . I have Server (Windows 8.1), Client (Windows 7) or Android

Synergy and analogues have a simple principle, like ip-kvm. We put a server (nost) on the main computer (laptop), on other clients, we prescribe the server address. And then in the server we indicate which side of the monitor the second computer is on, and that's it - when you bring the cursor to the edge of the screen, it goes to the screen of the second computer. At the same time, the keyboard also switches. The result is mouse control of several nearby machines.
Synergy has one big minus - you can't grab a window and transfer it to a second monitor, this is the difference from the dual monitor mode.
Z.Y. You can find a hardware one called usb kvm
