Is it possible to debug ARM without a debug board?

There is a board that controls the 3D printer: MKS Sbase V1.3 based on the Cortex-M3 LPC1768 processor. I want to modify the firmware (it uses Smoothieware) and I may need to debug it. Is it possible to somehow debug the code with only this board, or are debugger boards necessary? Maybe there is some kind of ARM emulator?

In general, as I understand it, debugging cannot be done without an external programmer, so I ordered ST-Link V2.
