Is it possible to create a portable device for measuring displacement in the horizontal plane?

Hello everybody!!
There is a task, it is tedious to assemble a device capable of measuring the distance traveled by it with an accuracy of 0.1mm. I'm thinking about the stuffing of the SHZ, a computer mouse.
Something like a pen / stylus, swiped over the surface and got the length of the path traveled. The task is complicated by the fact that the result must be transmitted via the Bluetooth / wi-fi protocol.
Does anyone have any experience or ideas on this topic? Any help is welcome.
