Is it possible to connect a 144 hz monitor to a laptop?

Monitor: asus vg248qe Laptop
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1660 ti
There is a table of resolutions and possible hertz in the monitor setup guide. Next to the 1920x1080 144Hz mode, there is an explanation that this mode will only work when a monitor is connected via DVI-D.
The laptop does not have this connector.
There was an attempt to connect a monitor via an HDMI female to DVI-D male adapter, but this attempt did not work. (HDMI 2.0 cable, of course)
Is it even possible to connect a 144Hz monitor to a laptop? And if so, what am I doing wrong?
