Is it possible to connect 12V lines in series from 2 different PSUs connected to the same outlet to get 24V with the same current?
If it's not possible, please explain why it won't work.

Yes, it is possible, with some precautions - for example, it is impossible to allow the cases of these PSUs to come into contact, since in computer PSUs a common output wire is connected to the case (minus all output channels). With such contact, one of the power supplies will be short-circuited, and short circuit protection will work in it.
