Is it possible to configure the router as an access point without connecting it via ethernet wire?

Good afternoon!
General scheme:

Internet source: e8372 huawei modem (whistle) with wifi, it receives a 4g signal and distributes.
There is a router: TPlink WR740N which I want to configure as an access point
Question: in the instructions that I found , they suggest connecting them with a wire first, but the modem does not have an ethernet connector, will this interfere with me when setting up the router? Do I need a second router to set up?
Thank you!

No need, connect directly with a cable to the router and configure, then just switch it to a modem

The option "Take a router from USB, plug a 4G modem into it" is not considered? Then the router will work for its intended purpose, giving out the Internet both via WiFi and by wire.
The price of the cheapest router with a USB port is 20 bucks in any store ...
And there will be no bad moment on the diagram "wifi (modem gives) -wifi (router as a client) -wifi (router distributes)"
