Ubuntu - debian pumped with the ability to install new packages.
But debian is the most stable system based on linux kernel. I would choose debian.
I worked in an Internet provider, raised a server on debian with proxmox - everything is fine.
In general, I think ubuntu - from the evil one. Soon I will try FreeBSD altogether, they say there is no extra software there, which I like.
Normal idea. Take the LTS version of Ubuntu, if at least somehow the production will be the freshest, if you play around.
