Is it normal to sit and parse documents?

After completing the internship, he got a job as a java developer in a bank.

I have been working in a bank for six months now. The main tasks are to parse Excel and other little things.
Question: is it ok? I just thought that being a developer means doing development, and not sitting and parsing documents for other departments of the bank.

And how are you doing with that?

there is an opinion that the 'larger and more solid' the company, the more boring it is to work in it, since each participant is more of a cog in the system, which does not even make sense to train - 'you take a place, perform the necessary task, the costs are acceptable compared to the income received - so why change it?'.
Try to contact your boss with a proposal to give another task, you need it for self-improvement, and it’s better to do it with the employer’s money, and not your time.

Beginners are assigned tasks at the level they are capable of handling. Do your job well, give a reason to entrust you with more complex tasks.

So maybe the management is waiting for you to write the parser? :)

You are more than excellent. Already have six months of experience in commercial development in Java. If you self-educate in your free time, you can start applying for jobs with more interesting and challenging tasks. So, if you are already bored here and you are pulling something more interesting, then start going to social services.

If you are not in the top 10, then other banks have a very sad IT, especially if it’s not federal, but some kind of regional one
. So this is normal
. If you are tired, they pay little, your salary does not grow, feel free to change the bank to a new one

After completing the internship, he got a job as a java developer in a bank.

I've been working in a bank for half a year already, the main tasks are to parse Excel and other little things.

Do you parse with your hands, or do you write parsers in Java?
Question: is it ok? I just thought being a developer means doing development, and not sitting around parsing documents for other departments of the bank.

So do you write parsers, or are you sitting in Excel?
Or do you think that parsers are not programs?
Or do you already have all the parsers written and you do not write anything?
And how are you doing with that?

There are many and different cases, it's just that in your question it is not clear what you are doing. For half a year not to write a parser is probably somehow slow ...
