Is it legal to post screenshots from a video on a website?

Greetings!
Can you please tell me if it is legal to post a screenshot from a movie or cartoon on your website without specifying the source or author of the video material?

Legal.
But only for informational, scientific, educational or cultural purposes (GK RF 1274).
That is, it basically falls under quoting, which is not prohibited, but to the extent justified by the purpose of quoting .
Purposes are allowed: scientific, polemical, critical, informational, educational , as well as the purpose of revealing the author's creative intent . It should be obvious that you are not harming the author of the video, and you are not doing any crazy things like uploading absolutely all frames of the video as screenshots, which is clearly not justified by the informational purpose.
In any case, you need to indicate the author and the source of borrowing.
In short, if you have some kind of wiki project, then you can safely upload screenshots there. The author and source can be listed somewhere on the main page (it would be strange not to do this on a wiki dedicated to this video or this director), but not necessarily on other pages.
In the US (and other countries) this would be fair use .

What is in open sources, such as trailers, and is not prohibited by the author himself, is possible. In general, media and copyright laws may differ from country to country.
